About this site
An independent PFAS lookup,
based in Norway.
No proximity to the US chemicals industry. No utility relationships. No political stake. GDPR as a baseline.
01What CheckPFAS is
CheckPFAS is a free, publicly accessible tool that lets anyone in the United States look up PFAS ("forever chemical") contamination data for their local water utility by ZIP code. All data comes directly from the EPA's Fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 5) — the most comprehensive federal PFAS testing program ever conducted, covering roughly 10,000 public water systems from 2023 through 2025.
The site exists because the raw EPA data is public but hard to navigate. Our goal is to translate it into plain language so that any household can understand what was tested, what was found, and what (if anything) is worth doing about it — without alarm and without oversimplification.
02Who operates it
CheckPFAS is operated by Jovian Creative AS (Organisation number: 930 966 495), a company registered in Norway.
Being based outside the United States gives us a specific kind of independence: we have no proximity to the US chemicals industry, no relationships with water utilities, and no political stake in how the data is read. We operate under GDPR as a baseline for privacy, which we believe is stricter than US requirements.
The site is maintained by a small editorial team. Our editorial lead can be reached at [email protected].
03How we're funded
CheckPFAS is funded through affiliate commissions — primarily the Amazon Associates program. When a reader clicks a filter recommendation link and makes a purchase, we earn a small percentage at no extra cost to them. This is our only revenue source.
We do not accept sponsored content, paid placements, or manufacturer relationships beyond the standard public affiliate programs. Our product rankings are based on NSF/ANSI certification status, published PFAS removal rates, and cost — not commission rates. Products with no affiliate link receive the same evaluation as those that earn us a commission.
For full disclosure details, see our Affiliate Disclosure.
04What we are not
- We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
- We are not a water testing laboratory and do not conduct our own measurements.
- We are not a medical resource. Nothing on CheckPFAS constitutes health advice.
- We are not a regulatory authority. We report what the EPA data shows; we do not set limits.
For official water quality information, contact your water utility or consult their annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR).
